July 3 Poker Flat Research Range tour canceled

The weekly Poker Flat Research Range public tour is canceled July 3 due to the University of Alaska Fairbanks holiday.

The next tour is scheduled for Thursday, July 10, at 2 p.m. at Mile 30 Steese Highway. The tour is free and reservations are not required. Visitors should dress for the weather and bring bug spray.

The last public tour of the season will happen Thursday, July 17, and will be part of the 2014 Greater Fairbanks Chamber of Commerce Golden Days celebration. This is the annual Poker Flat Research Range Rockets and Gold Open House and will be held from 4-8 p.m. Many activities and special talks are planned.

Poker Flat Research Range is part the University of Alaska Fairbanks Geophysical Institute. The institute has two other free public tours available. Visit the GI’s Arctic Region Supercomputing Center on Wednesdays at 1 p.m. in the lower level of the Butrovich Building.

Then at 2 p.m. head over to the Elvey Building for a tour of the Alaska Satellite Facility and the Alaska Volcano Observatory. Meet near the Globe Room.
