New reads for UA Press Summertime Book Club

Starting Tuesday, June 30, the UA Press Summertime Book Club will begin its most ambitious project yet — three books at the same time. The book club meets via Zoom every Tuesday at 7 p.m.

One of the book club's driving beliefs is that synthesis thinking — the ability and inclination to recognize links between unlike texts and experiences — is a hallmark of an enlightened world of higher education. Its newest venture is to exercise those synthesis muscles by reading and discussing the following books concurrently.

Readings for Tuesday, June 30

• "Exhalation: Stories," by Ted Chiang — Frst story, "The Merchant and the Alchemist's Gate," through page 36


• "Baby No-Eyes," by Patricia Grace — Prologue and chapter 1, through page 20


• "How to Be an Antiracist," by Ibram X. Kendi — Introduction and chapter 1, through page 23
