Local coffee roasters and cafés will show off their specialty items on Friday, Nov. 16, at the 2018 Roast and Boast, an event organized by students in the University of Alaska Fairbanks School of Management Principles of Marketing class.

The event will take place from 5-7 p.m. at Northrim Bank’s Fairbanks Financial Center, 360 Merhar Avenue.

For the seventh year, the School of Management is joining Northrim Bank to host this community event, which features delicious baked goods, fresh pressed juices, award-winning teas, organic kombucha and plenty of hot beverages.

Seven businesses will showcase their creations at the event: Bagels & Brew, Diving Duck Locally Roasted Coffee, Go Wild Superfood Café and Juicery, Little Owl Café, North Pole Coffee Roasting Co. and Sipping Streams Tea Co. Joining the lineup this year for the first time is Mama Bears Organic Kombucha. All businesses have donated gift certificates or baskets for the door prizes, and the first 100 attendees will receive VIP swag bags. The grand prize is a Viper remote start system from Street Sounds.

Students in the Principles of Marketing class help organize and market the event, gaining organizational management, social media development, budgeting, team building and event-planning experience.

“You have to be on social media to reach your market these days, and it is interesting to be on the business side of social media,” said Sierra Kinworthy, a senior business administration student working on the project. “It’s really fun to learn how the technology works, and the strategy that goes into a social media plan. This project is an excellent opportunity to develop professional skills.”
