The end of EndNote

University Relations

The Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research announces that the University of Alaska Fairbanks will no longer be subscribing to Endnote, the software tool for publishing and managing bibliographies, citations and references.

EndNote will not be available for UAF affiliates after Friday, June 12. Anyone using EndNote under the UAF site license is required to uninstall it from devices by June 12. If you own a personal license, do not uninstall the software.

The action is a cost-saving measure. Over the past several years, there has been a steady decrease in users of the university site license but a steady increase in the annual cost to provide the service to employees. Additionally, more and more UAF users are purchasing personal EndNote licenses, which will not be affected by terminating this institutional package subscription.

Users are encouraged to switch to Mendeley, a free citation software. There are online trainings available. The Rasmuson Library may offer training in the future, and the library's reference desk will provide assistance at 474-7482.
