Three-Minute Thesis competition finals

February 22, 2021

Alice Bailey

The College of Fisheries and Ocean Sciences will host the final round of an online Three-Minute Thesis competition on Tuesday, Feb. 23, beginning at 5 p.m. The event is open to the public via Zoom.

The Three-Minute Thesis , or “3MT,” is an academic research communication competition that challenges graduate students to communicate the significance of their projects to a general audience in just three minutes using a single presentation slide. The 3MT competition was established by Australia’s University of Queensland in 2008.

Last week, 22 students from CFOS’s departments of Oceanography, Marine Biology and Fisheries competed in the first round of the competition. Judges scored the talks according to two categories: "Comprehension and Content" and "Engagement and Communication.”

Ben Lowin, Lindsey Stadler, Erika King, Josie Haag, James Currie and Emily Ortega scored the highest and will compete in the finals on Feb. 23.

The event is open to the public via Zoom. Please log on before 5 p.m. to attend.
