UAF events feature dance, bluegrass, rural justice, aging at home

University of Alaska Fairbanks Summer Sessions and Lifelong Learning is hosting more than 40 free lectures, concerts and other events this summer. Here is what’s happening during the week ahead:


  • On Monday, June 13, the Magical Mondays hands-on learning series will kick off with Lynn and Charley Basham, retired UAF faculty members, teaching “The Magic of Music and Dance.” The program will begin at 7 p.m. at the Murie Building auditorium and atrium.



  • On Tuesday, June 14, the Healthy Living lecture series will feature Barbara Lando, founder of Fairbanks Osher Lifelong Learning Institute and Aging at Home Fairbanks, discussing “Aging at Home Fairbanks: A village movement.” The lecture will be at 7 p.m. at the Murie Building auditorium.



  • On Wednesday, June 15, the Discover Alaska series will feature Jeff May, a UAF assistant professor of justice, discussing rural justice in Alaska. The lecture will be at 7 p.m. at the Murie Building auditorium.



  • On Thursday, June 16, the Music in the Garden concert series will host the Dry Cabin String Band and traditional, hard-driving bluegrass, featuring guitar, fiddle, banjo and bass. Music begins at 7 p.m. at Georgeson Botanical Garden.
