The University of Alaska Fairbanks will welcome hundreds of new students at the kickoff of new-student orientation activities this week.

Orientation runs Thursday, Aug. 25, through Sunday, Aug. 28, and will include workshops and activities for new students and their families, as well as opportunities for students to connect with the Fairbanks community. Classes begin Monday, Aug. 29.

Campus residence halls will open for students to begin moving in at 8 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 25. Student move-in includes the Rev It Up event in the Moore-Bartlett-Skarland complex from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. The event is designed to be a one-stop resource for incoming freshmen but is open to any student. Representatives from university departments will provide information on academics, student services and campus life. Residence Life staff members, community volunteers and UAF staffers will be there to help students move into their new homes.

Students can check in for orientation at Rev It Up or at the information table at the Wood Center front desk from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday's activities will include campus tours and seminars, with a welcome barbecue from 5-7 p.m. at Wood Center. The orientation kickoff pep rally will take place at 7 p.m. Thursday in the Patty Center. Highlights of the four-day event include workshops on a variety of topics, nightly recreation activities, a Chena River float, a Pokemon Go scavenger hunt, a special late-night shopping event at West Fairbanks Fred Meyer and a mixer for family members at The Pub on Thursday evening. A full schedule of events, as well as information on how to register for orientation, is available online at www.uaf.edu/orientation.
