Volleyball goes sledding with local club team

Last weekend, the Alaska volleyball team spent the day with a local club volleyball team, the Ninjas.
The student-athletes went sledding with the middle-school aged girls and followed that up by warming with a bonfire. This was a chance for the Nanooks to spend time getting to know the up-and-coming young volleyball talent in the Fairbanks area.
Alaska was set up with the Ninjas through the club's head coach and former Nanook volleyball player, Ruth Pomeroy. The event was held at the coach's home.
“The athletes and their parents are supportive fans and we appreciate the opportunity to be able to spend some time outdoors with them and to enjoy their company,” head coach Mallory Larranaga said. “We ended the day with a lot of laughs as both the Nanooks and Ninja proved their dancing skills by playing 'Just Dance 4.' We have created lasting memories and friendships and will definitely be doing this again.”
“Spending time with the Ninja was a neat experience,” freshman defensive specialist Meagan Olsen said. “I liked getting out in the community and spending time with people. I know how much I looked up to the Alaska volleyball team when I was younger so I know how much it meant to those girls to get to spend time with us. This was a great step forward for our team in creating our image and who we want to be.”
