The University of Alaska Fairbanks is joining community partners to host Fairbanks Startup Weekend.

The 54-hour event will be held Sept. 28-30 and will provide aspiring entrepreneurs an opportunity to develop their plans for a new business. Startup Weekend is designed for developers, designers, marketers, product managers, students and more to pitch their business startup ideas and receive feedback from peers and industry professionals. Those without an idea are also welcome to participate. Teams will develop the top ideas offered at the event with the help of coaches and mentors, culminating with presentations to local business professionals. This hands-on event will include collaboration with fellow participants and one-on-one time with Startup Weekend mentors.

The winning team is guaranteed a spot in the finals of UAF’s Arctic Innovation Competition, which has a top prize of $10,000.

Fairbanks Startup Weekend will be held at UAF’s Engineering Learning and Innovation Facility. Tickets are $40-$80, which includes all meals. Student and military discounts are available, along with limited scholarships. Participants can register at http://go.startupweekend.org/fairbanks. UAF's Center for Innovation, Commercialization and Entrepreneurship, the Fairbanks North Star Borough and the Small Business Development Center are hosting the event.
