The Alaska women's basketball team will open Great Northwest Athletic Conference play this Saturday at 5:15 p.m. when it travels South to face rival and travel partner Alaska Anchorage at the Wells Fargo Sports Complex.

The Nanooks (0-6) are still searching for their first win of the 2012-13 season following losses in all three games at last week's Mt. McKinley Bank North Star Invitational while the Seawolves (3-2) are just outside the USA Today Sports Division II Top 25 Coaches' Poll, at No. 27.

Alaska fell in consecutive days to Upper Iowa (79-85), Anderson (48-81) and tournament champion Winona State (50-67) last week at the Patty Center. In the first loss, the 'Nooks led by 11 points with under nine minutes to play before the Peacocks surged back for the win. In Saturday's loss to the Warriors, WSU led by as many as 30 in the second half, but the Nanooks went on a 17-0 run and held Winona without a point for over eight minutes.

Senior guard Taylor Altenburg (Elko, Nev./Criminal Justice) was named to the All-Tournament Team after she led the team with 13.0 points per game to go with 5.7 rebounds, 1.3 steals, 1.0 assists and 1.0 block. Junior guard April Fultz (Rialto, Calif./Political science) was the other double-figure scorer as she contributed 12.7 points, 6.7 rebounds and 2.3 steals per outing.
